Nima at KITP

Check out the latest Arkani-Hamed talk, where he says that maybe the new theory is really The Grothendieck Direction!

  1. Well, if M is for motive, then it's still just M-theory. ;)

  2. Lol, kneemo. But Arkani-Hamed started with T theory (for T just a new letter) ... and ended the talk with P theory, where P stands for polytope!

  3. And when discussing cyclic structures on Grassmannians, he refers to Goncharov's papers. OMG, check out THIS and this ...

  4. "Gravity + QM = spacetime is doomed"

Can it be said clearer? By necessity it means a varying speed of light or ZEO.

  5. Ulla, Nima is a very clear speaker, and this is one of his better introductory talks. As for the varying c ... probably they do not realise this yet. There was a discussion session, but it seems it was private.

  6. He had a picture of complex harder space that went in between x,y-lines. Could it be the Lie-algebra? Then maybe Lisi's E8 can fit into this?

  7. The geometry, as far as I recall, seemed to be determined by the placement of internal twistor propogators. This was at least the case with polygon triangulation equivalence classes.

  8. So you mean that they do know about c variation, in some sense? Yes, but that is a very different thing from understanding the physical consequences, such as supernovae redshifts. Ulla, Lisi did not invent the Lie group E8.
