Theory Update 87
Recall that Witten has lately been working on categorified knot invariants, based on five and six dimensional field theories. These invariants are computed using Khovanov homology for knots. But why stick to Khovanov homology? It would appear that Nature prefers a universal homology theory, which is even more categorical in nature, and allows the spaces of the QFT to emerge from canonical quantum operators.

Thankfully, the winter solstice is finally here, and although it will remain cold for some months, my clothes will now have an ever increasing chance of finding some sun!
